On Dating

Navigating the dating world is proving to like being lost in the forest. You’re constantly alert, watching for any sign of a wolf. One that comes out of the darkness by surprise. The most dangerous of all. You’re fumbling about, trying to pick a direction and stick to it, hoping that it will lead you out, into the brightness of the sun. Occasionally, you find yourself drained, exhausted by the constant walking, not knowing where you are or if you’re any closer to escaping. So you sit in place. You reflect. You rest. You consider turning around, though at this point you wonder if you can find a way back to who you were when you began the journey. On even rarer occasions, you stumble upon a beautiful, life giving stream that makes you stop in your tracks. It flows so effortlessly, so clear, so strong, that all control is abandoned. You forget about your journey out of the forest. Your forget all the darkness and stumbling you’ve endured up until that moment. You are mesmerized. You are powerless. You have no choice but to jump in, full plunge, and let it overtake you. You find it holds you just the way you imagined. You find its flow to feel like home. At some point you second guess its power over you. You panic. You wonder if you should get out and return to the path you ventured away from. You wonder if you’ve lost all control and have become too weak to jump out of the stream. You wonder what would happen if you stayed in, where it would take you.
