It pains me that people accept things in their life that they are unhappy with. It frustrates me to no end that just because being overweight, depressed and unhappy are common, people accept that it’s normal and just go about their day. They don’t even try to do anything to change their circumstances. Why not question it? Why not ask if there’s anything within your power to change what you don’t like about your life? What if the solution is simple? What if it’s easy? What if you made a change that redirected your entire life and swerved it into the most fabulous, delicious story you’d ever dreamed of? But no. That’s not what happens. What happens is you feel anxious or depressed or unhappy or complacent. You tell a friend, or you post it anonymously on social media and then you feel like no one cares and there’s nothing that you can do about it and you just move on. You distract yourself or you think about the next thing in your life that’s subpar. You refuse to take responsibility, you refuse to take action. You think it’s hopeless, that you’ll just be wasting energy. Hell, you’re even afraid to want and hope for anything more, any slight happiness out of fear that you won’t get it. That the disappointment after feeling that flutter of hope will bring you even farther down than you already are. I’ve been there. I know those feelings well, especially the fear of even thinking about a better life. But you can do more and it’s within your fucking control. It’s even easy. You can start small, the smallest steps become the most impactful because they get you started. And then your actions compound and if you’re consistent, you start to see positive changes. You see them weekly, you see them monthly and after a few months you look back and you see drastic change. You think about how you haven’t felt worthless in a few days, a few weeks! You think to yourself wow, have I felt happy for two whole days? Have I not had a negative spiral in a week? Is this all working? YES. The smallest actions you take matter. Everything you do and don’t do matters. The acceptance you pocket every day makes it harder and harder for you to take action to change the next day and the next. But if you decide to change it, even if it’s just a thought, that matters. A thought becomes action quite easily. But you have to see it. And with the way the world is today, you can see it anywhere and everywhere. You can see people transform their lives. You can see people reach for more and get what they reach for. You can too. There’s no reason why you can’t. Just take consistent action. It’s not complicated. It’s simple. It’s even boring. But if you begin to move your life in the direction you want, even if it’s getting out of bed before noon when you weren’t able to get up before 2pm. That matters. And it’s progress and it’s magical. If you begin to move in the direction that you want to take your life, you will believe that you can get there. You will see the impact the changes you make have on your life, your mind, your confidence. You will start to feel again. You’ll feel life. You won’t be complacent, bored, depressed, dull. When you take action, you choose to be an active participant in life. You choose to embody all that you are and to choose to step into the person you can become. Your potential is waiting for you.
